ResumenIn the society in wich we live technology and the idea of technological "progress" are very important. For many centuries now people from European, or "western", cultures have tended to judge other people on the basis of the technologies they use. This is especially true of European attitudes towards the Aboriginal people of Australia. When Europeans were first settling the continent (from 1788 in Sydney Cove) the Aboriginal people were satisfying their food needs by hunting and gathering-that is, by the capture of fish and the collection of plants and small animal. Because they did not raise livestock, grow crops, or have identifiable farms, as Europeans did, their technologies were regarded as "simple" or "primitive".
