Binhame es una base bibliográfica que busca fortalecer el proceso de organización del material bibliográfico y documental existente en la Amazonía ecuatoriana. Como parte de la misión y visión la Universidad Estatal Amazónica (UEA) se pretende ofrecer un recurso para investigadores, académicos, estudiantes y público en general. Es de uso público y gratuito y los usuarios/autores son invitados a alimentar este material, correspondiendo con los derechos de autor.

Al realizar esta presentación el autor tiene en mente que el lector pueda enriquecer esa imagen que le ha sido difundida sobre la Amazonia, distinta y primitiva, con la delicada complejidad de sus formas de organización social y la ya mileneria riqueza cultural. Partiré de una breve reseña histórica destacando el interés occidental en la explotación de sus recursos naturales; se ilustran las diversas estrategias de apropiación del medio ambiente; las formas de organización social; el papel desempeñado por la diversidad lingüística en la identidad y las relaciones con otras etnias; las diferentes concepciones sobre el poblamiento y actual transformación en aldeas; y finalizara con un recuento de la política territorial y el lugar que ocupa la población indígena de dichas organizaciones. Employing the increasingly popular framework of political ecology, which highlights the dynamic linkages between political-economic forces and human-environment relationships, Lawrence Grossman provides a new perspective on the history and contemporary trajectory of the Windward Islands banana industry. He reveals in rich detail the myriad impacts of banana production on the peasant laborers of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Grossman challenges the conventional wisdom on three interrelated issues central to contract farming and political ecology. First, he analyzes the process of deskilling and the associated significance of control by capital and the state over peasant labor. Second, he investigates the impacts of contract farming for export on domestic food production and food import dependency. And third, he examines the often misunderstood problem of pesticide misuse. Grossman's findings lead to a reconsideration of broader debates concerning the relevance of research on industrial restructuring and globalization for the analysis of agrarian change. Most important, his work emphasizes that we must pay greater attention to the fundamental significance of the "environmental rootedness" of agriculture in studies of political ecology and contract farming. |

Aquí más bien, los lectores hallarán en términos amplios y a la vez concretos, investigaciones asociadas al ámbito de los estudios amazónicos. Esta idea de los estudios amazónicos antes que una tentativa taxonómica por amontonar las investigaciones sobre la Amazonia, tiene que ver con el modo de pensar las entrelazadas relaciones entre los hechos de la naturaleza y la sociedad. La complejidad que existe en los intrincados vínculos entre naturaleza y sociedad, y los conflictos que sobrevienen de tal relación, es tan manifiesta que la práctica investigativa se vio enfrentada a debatir sobre el concepto de una naturaleza no desprendida de la actividad humana, y a controvertir la idea de una acción social divorciada de las condiciones naturales en las que tiene lugar. |
